“Libraries Rock” Summer Reading Program

LIBRARIES ROCK!  2018 SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Readers of all ages will explore all things musical (and some geological!) this summer as the Valley Falls Free Library and Diver  Memorial Library present “Libraries Rock” during our summer library program. Activities will include musical crafts, art projects, rock creations, and more. Check out our schedule of events in the libraries, or online.

The 2018 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through  adult, with programs, prize drawings, storytimes, a reading challenge, and more.   Registration for “Libraries Rock” begins on June 9th at the Valley Falls Village Wide Yard Sale, the Schaghticoke Strawberry Festival, and in the libraries. You can also register online at Beanstack. Adult Yoga Buffet @ Presbyterian United Church

Introducing Yoga Summer Buffet! The Schaghticoke Presbyterian Church is offering a set of classes in yoga to the community for free- Come and try them out- let us know what you think. We would like to make them a permanent habit in Schaghticoke.

Adult Evening Yoga
This a Friday night yoga for the week end and weekend. All levels invited- floor and standing poses-breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation practices. Great for balance, strengthening and core awareness. Bring yoga mat, towel, water.

Valley Falls VFW Post 1938 located on Poplar Street Auxiliary is having their annual Christmas in the Valley in July this year. It’s July 21st 9AM-3PM being held outside the post. This program is for teens and adults.  Enrollment is limited so register early to reserve your spot. 8 minimum and 15 sewers maximum – helpers can be any number.

If you get frustrated every time you want to sew something – it may just mean your sewing machine is in need of cleaning and oiling. Or it might be something
as easy as using the right thread or needle. The Sewing Machine Clinic is designed to help you clean and maintain your sewing machine to keep it in top working order.
Maybe you have trouble getting the tension adjusted or the needle keeps breaking. This clinic will focus on routine sewing machine issues. We will walk
through the basics of cleaning and oiling your machine. Plus you can learn about basic machine stitches including blind hemming.

Supplies
Sewing Machine, Accessories and Manual. If you can’t find your manual go on-line and download the version for your machine from the manufacturer’s website.
Scrap fabric, extra needles, sewing machine oil, thread, scissors, tape measure or ruler and an extension cord.

This program is for children 8 – 14 with an adult partner, teens 15 and older and adults.  Enrollment is limited so register early to reserve your spot. 8 minimum and 15 sewers maximum – helpers can be any number.

Learn basic sewing skills, sewing machine and tool basics, sewing and finishing seams. We will be helping you create a simple pillow, see below for supplies. Or if you
are a more experienced sewer and are having problems completing a project you can bring that project along and get some expert advice.

Supplies:
Sewing Machine, Accessories and Manual. If you can’t find your manual go on-line and download the version for your machine from the manufacturer’s website.
Pillow form and 1 yard of fabric or required yardage for your size pillow. Matching thread, extra needles, scissors, tape measure or ruler and an extension cord.

Learn & Play @ Diver Library

Learn & Play is a story-time program for early and pre-readers. Join us every Monday at 10:30am as we read, make crafts and play games.  Though Learn & Play is designed with younger children in mind, older children and siblings are welcome. Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay and help with the projects. Dress for messes!

Have you ever written a song? Have you ever wanted to try? This summer we’ll be discussing the craft of songwriting and experimenting with some different ways of setting words to music. Then we’ll spend a day making a recording of our songs. No prior musical experience necessary.
